Bank Holidays in Delhi 2017

 In 2017, Delhi has 90 Bank holidays including the government holidays, Sunday, second and Fourth Saturday are ths usual bank holidays in Delhi. In this 90 bank Holidays, 89 are normal public holidays whereas this year Delhi government has declared January 5 as a government holiday on the occasion of the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh.

Guru Gobind Singh is the tenth and last Sikh Guru The bank holiday is not only for banks but will also apply to all government offices. This is the first time that Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti has been declared a holiday in Delhi. Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is a public holiday only in Delhi this holiday is not applicable for other states excluding Delhi. May be in near future this Government holiday will also be applicable for Punjab and Haryana as well but there is no official announcements regarding this public holiday. Government sources said that it was a landmark anniversary celebrated across the country.

    January 26 is not only republic day it is also Purna Swaraj Day. In 1950 when India's constitution came into effect this date was chosen as it was the anniversary of Purna Swaraj Day, which was held on January 26, 1930. Republic day means means the constitution will give the power to the citizens to govern themselves by choosing their own government.

    It was believed Hiranyakashipu a hard hearted and evil King decided to kill his own son as he refused to worship him. He asked his sister 'Holika', who was immune to fire, to sit on a pyre of fire with Prahalad in her lap. Actually they plan to burn Prahalad. But their plan did not go through as Prahalad who was reciting the name of Lord Vishnu throughout was safe, but Holika got burnt to ashes. The defeat of Holika signifies the burning of all that is bad. After this, Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyakashipu. It is actually the death of Holika that is associated with Holi.
