Tamil Nadu is considered the second largest industrial state that has one of the highest contributions towards India's GDP. However, 17th January is also declared as one of the state bank holidays as it is the birthday of the ex-chief minister and actor, Shri MG Ramachandran, commonly known as MGR. Mahaveer Jayanthi: The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday on Mahaveer Jayanthi to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveer, the twenty-fourth Tirthankara of Jainism. On this day, Jains in India celebrate the festival with much pomp and enthusiasm.

Good Friday: The government has declared a holiday, on account of Good Friday. It falls on the last week of Friday in March. It is a day on which Jesus, the central figure of Christianity was crucified. The day marks worship services, prayers, vigil services, fasting, and alms-giving. Christians across the world observe this day as Black Friday or Easter Friday or Holy Friday.

Popularly known as Baba Saheb, he was an economist, social reformer who was the principal architect of the Constitution of India and a founding father of the Republic of India.

Tamil New Year: The government has declared a holiday on the occasion of Tamil New Year's day as per the Tamil panchangam. The New Year will be celebrated with much of zeal and enthusiasm across all the age barriers in Tamilnadu.
