Government asks Reliance Industries to supply KG-D6 gas to priority sectors

Government asks RIL to supply KG-D6 gas
The Government with immediate action directed Reliance Industries to stop supplying its gas from KG-D6 block to refineries, steel firms and petrochemical plants and supply the same to priority consumers, facing the pro-rata fuel supply cut after the block's output fell by about 28%.

This order by the government is expected to affect the RIL"s customers such as Indian Oil Corp's refinery in Gujarat, Gail's Pata petrochemical plant, RIL's petrochemical projects in Gujarat and Maharastra, and Essar Steel.

A senior official from oil ministry said that, RIL has been directed to limit its gas supplies only to priority sector consumers as specified by the EGoM. He also added that the priority sectors must not suffer due to the fault of Reliance.

The RIL owned KG-D6 at present produces around 50 mmscmd gas, which is below the 69.8 mmscmd specified as per the government approved plan.
