Power Grid Corporation of India to offer engineering service
State-owned Power Grid Corporation of India is planning to diversify its business into engineering, procurement and construction services in India and overseas.

The company's Director (personnel) VM Kaul reported that Power Grid is also open to enter into partnership with private companies for on caseto-case basis. The company is also eyeing to expand in the Asian and African countries by offering consultancy services and acquiring the power transmission assets.

He added that although the company is currently focusing on India but it is expected that saturation will come in the next four-five years.

The company plans to expand its consultancy and telecom businesses in Asia and Africa. The company generates 94 per cent of its revenue from the electricity transmission business, while the remaining revenue comes from the consultancy services and telecom businesses.

In 2010-11, the consultancy services helped the company to earn about Rs. 260 crore and it is expected that the business would grow 10 per cent annually.
