RIL told to drill 11 new wells
The Indian Oil Ministry in its meeting with the managing committee (MC) of the D-6 block yesterday, has directed Indian private oil major, Reliance Industries to drill 11 new wells in FY12. This move of the Government aims at boosting gas output from the controversial block to 80 million standard cubic meters per day and for this purpose, Government has asked RIL to submit plan by the month end.

The Director General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), SK Srivastava, quoted, "For government (declining) gas production is main issue. We have asked operator (RIL) about drilling of wells. Operator will submit proposals for drilling wells in a week or two weeks, when we meet next."

RIL's D-6 block is currently producing 48 million metric standard cubic meters a day (mmscmd) of gas as against a Government set target of 69.8 mmscmd.
