As per the directives of the directives of the Indian oil ministry, Indian private oil and gas major, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has decided to slash the natural gas supplies from its D-6 block to non-core users like refineries and steel plants.

RIL"s implementation of the ministerial priority allocation order will entitle certain priority sectors like fertilizers and power to get first supply of natural gas from its eastern offshore KG-D 6 fields. Meanwhile, RIL will supply natural gas to other non-core users like refineries; petrochemical units and sponge iron plants only if it has any volumes left after supplying to the priority sector.

An industry official quoted, "Reliance this morning curtailed gas supplies to non-core users, including its own refineries and petrochemical plant."
