Indian Farmers Fertilisers Cooperative Limited (Iffco) announced that it has started production of new fertiliser that has low potash content at its manufacturing facility in Kandla in Gujarat.

This new initiative will be proved beneficial as the price of potash, which is key input of phosphatic fertilisers, has increased to $497 per tonne now in international market from $370 per tonne in the beginning of April.

Supporting the concern of rising potash prices, Iffco Kandla Senior Executive Director L Murugappan said that, taking into consideration the highly unstable international potash prices, they have decided to manufacture a new-grade fertiliser at their Kandla Unit.

He further added that, the production of this new kind of potash is expected to begin soon.
