SAIL plans to set plant in Afghanistan
On the condition of being provided with infrastructure support and raw material sources, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is looking forward to set up steel plant in Afghanistan.

The excitement of SAIL arose after Afghanistan government hinted at the list of the companies that would get the chance to offer development plans from mining of iron ore to vertically integrated processes, including making of steel.

SAIL in a statement declared that Afghanistan has shortlisted 15 Indian steel and mining companies, among which SAIL is also included, out of 22 contending companies.

Afghanistan has agreed to provide the grant for mining licenses at Hajigak deposits, located 130 kilometres west of Kabul. Hajigak deposits, is estimated to possess an approximate of 1.8 billion tonne of high-quality magnetite. SAIL is planning to move ahead with the project as after realizing the interest by the Afghanistan government in the proposal.
