Rupee weakens against US dollar on falling equities

Rupee weakens against US dollar
The Indian rupee fell against US dollar on Tuesday due to appreciation of the US currency against other major rival currencies overseas and a weak opening in the domestic equity market.

Rupee future for October 2011 contract fell as much as 0.14 paise to Rs. 49.1925 per dollar on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at 11.27am.

At the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), GBPUSD future for December 2011 contract traded at US$1.5794 per pound (USD depreciated by 0.33 per cent against GBP) at 11.52 AM CT today.

S&P CNX NIFTY, at NSE, traded at 5,034.65, down by 1.63 per cent, after opening at 5,049.45 against the previous closing of 5,118.25. It touched the intra-day low of 5,024.40 till the trading. (At 11.29 AM today).

At NSE, USDINR for October 2011 contract traded at Rs. 49.1925 per dollar, rupee depreciated by 0.14 paise, after opening at Rs. 49.2150 against the previous closing price of Rs.49.0450. It fell to Rs. 49.1050 per dollar with a business volume of 483864 lots till the trading. (At 11.27 AM today).
