Today, on November 8th, 2011 no clear trends are emerging in the domestic markets. There are no strong global or local cues. Most of the information have already been factored in. The markets may open softly like the rest of the Asian markets. The US markets closed on a mixed note yesterday. Most of the European markets closed in the red with the news of the resignation of Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou didn"t moving the markets much. As the day will progress the announcements of quarterly results will move the Indian markets.

On Friday, November 4th, 2011, the BSE Sensex closed at 17562.61, up by 80.68 points or 0.46 per cent from the previous close, while the NSE"s broad-based Nifty advanced by 18.45 points or 0.35 per cent to close at 5,284.20. The BSE barometer touched an intra-day high of 17,702.26 and intra-day low of 17,474.39. The BSE Midcap finished the day at 6,298.39, up by 47.18 points or 0.75 per cent, whereas the BSE Small Cap closed at 6,958.13, reflecting an increase of 26.15 points or 0.38 per cent.

The net FII investment in the Indian markets on November 4th, 2011 stood at Rs – 859.90 crore. The net inflows by FIIs were negative on this day.

The gross purchases by the FIIs in the Indian equity markets were of Rs. 1887.20 crore. The gross sales were of Rs. 1809.40 crore. The net investment in the equity markets by FIIs on November 4th, 2011 stood at Rs 77.90 crore.

The gross purchases by the FIIs in the Indian debt markets were of Rs 120.60 crore. The gross sales by FIIs were of Rs 1058.40 crore. The net investment by the FIIs in the debt markets stood at Rs – 937.80 crore.

Today, on November 8th, 2011, most of the Asian markets opened softly and in the green. At 7.40 A.M. Indian time, the Nikkei 225 was down 27.87 points and was at 8739.00. The Hang Seng was up 163.80 points and was at 19842.37. The Taiwan weighted was up 40.51 points and was at 7663.84 points. The Shanghai composite was up 5.54 points and was at 2515.34.

On Monday, November 7th, 2011 the US markets closed on a mixed note. The Nasdaq closed at the level of 2695.25, gaining 9.10 points over the previous day"s closing. The news of the resignation of Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou didn"t move the markets that much as it had already factored in the news of shelving of Greek referendum. The future of Italian Prime Minister is also hanging in balance as Italy is emerging as the next Greek. The Dow Jones Industrial gained 85.15 points and closed at 12068.3. The S & P 500 gained 7.89 points and closed at 1261.12. The New York Stock Exchange composite (NYA) gained 38.20 points and closed at 7590.43.

The European Markets didn"t respond too positively to the news of resignation of the Greek Prime Minister. The DAX lost 37.48 points and closed at 5928.68. The FTSE 100 lost 16.34 points and closed at 5510.80. The ATX was down 4.30 points and closed at 1966.70.

Gold prices gained 1.3 per cent to settle at $1779.40 per ounce, while silver prices gained 1.5 per cent and closed at $34.59 per ounce. Crude oil gained 0.5 per cent to close at $94.77 per barrel.
