Pre Session : Indian markets getting strong positive cues from Asian markets Analysis for Jan 03, 2012

The Indian markets may begin the day in green on positive cues from the Asian markets. Most of the Asian markets have opened in green on positive global cues from the European markets. The Chinese and Japanese markets are again closed today on account of the New Year. The US markets too were closed yesterday on account of the New Year holiday. Most of the European Markets ended in green yesterday as market participants chose to start the year on a cheerful note.

The HSBC Purchasing Managers" Index of India for December rose to 54.2, indicating expansion in manufacturing. This may have some positive impact on sentiments of the market participants today .RBI governor D Subbarao yesterday said that a reversal of monetary policy can now be expected and the central bank may become growth centric once again. This will boost the sentiments of the market participants in the beginning of the New Year. The FIIs were net sellers yesterday and if the depreciation in rupee continues today then FIIs may continue with their selling trend, strengthening the vicious cycle of rupee depreciation and FII selling fueling each other.

The net investments by FIIs on 2nd January, 2012 in Indian capital markets stood at Rs – 899.50 crore. The net FII investments were negative yesterday.

The gross purchases by the FIIs in the Indian equity markets were of Rs. 979.00 crore. The gross sales were of Rs.1065.70 crore. The net investment in the equity markets by FIIs on January 2nd, 2012 stood at Rs – 86.80 crore.

The gross purchases by the FIIs in the Indian debt markets were of Rs 304.40 crore. The gross sales by FIIs were of Rs 1117.10 crore. The net investment by the FIIs in the debt markets stood at Rs -812.70 crore.

Today, most of the Asian markets have opened in green on positive global cues from the European markets. The Chinese and Japanese markets are again closed today on account of the New Year. At 7.40 A.M. Indian time, the Hang Seng was up 321.72 points and was at 18763.06. The Taiwan weighted was up 84.53 points and was at 7036.59. The US markets were closed yesterday on account of the New Year holiday.

Most of the European Markets ended in green yesterday as market participants chose to start the year on a cheerful note. The DAX gained 177.17 points and closed at 6075.52. The ATX gained 61.70 points and closed at 1937.00. The CAC was up 62.49 points and closed at 3222.30.
