A Government of India enterprise with a Navratna status, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) said it witnessed a sharp increase of 1,191.37 per cent in net profits for the third quarter ended December 31, 2011 at Rs 2,725.18 crore, which according to experts has beaten the market estimates.

Listed among the Fortune 500 and Forbes 2000 company, it had posted a net profit of Rs 211.03 crore during the same period a year ago, said Hindustan Petroleum Corporation in its filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange on February 9, 2012.

Besides, the total income of the company increased by 40.94 per cent to Rs 48204.97 crore during Q3 FY12, as compared to Rs 34200.88 crore during Q3 FY11.

During the quarter, the operating profit margin of the company increased by 577 bps to 6.54 per cent from 0.77 per cent for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the shares of the company closed at Rs 287.50 a piece, up 0.59 per cent from previous close on BSE.

On Friday, the shares of the company were trading at Rs 307.40 up by 19.90 points or 6.92%. previously it had closed at Rs 287.50.
