Future license to be handled separately: Sibal

Future license to be handled separately
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will be auctioning all future license of 2G telephony spectrum without being linked with spectrum allocation, Telecommunications minister Kapil Sibal said today.

The process of future license will be handled separately. However, spectrum sharing will be allowed under automatic route with uniform license fee of 8 per cent, he added.

Clearing the doubt over 3G allocation, he said, "no spectrum sharing between 3G operators and that the companies will have to pay for shifting to unified license."

The license awarded to the telecom operators will be renewed after 10 years.

The development came into action after the apex court of India, Supreme Court, in a writ petition of 2010, has ordered Trai to prepare fresh recommendations for grant of license and allocation of spectrum in 2G band.

Recently, the Supreme Court, in its historic verdicts, has cancelled all the 122 license issued to the telecom firms during the 2G allocation.
