Markets end flat in special trading
A special trading conducted on Saturday saw indices ending the day flat amidst low volumes and tepid response. The BSE Sensex closed the day up 0.19 points at 17637 points, while the Nifty closed the day at 5359 points, up 0.05 points from its previous close.
Both the stock exchanges BSE and NSE held a 90-minute special trading session from 11.15 am to 12.45 pm, as the BSE was testing its Disaster Recover Site.
Volumes were low, amidst lower participation from retail investors and institutions. BPCL, Jindal Steel, PNB and Sun Pharma gained modestly.
Markets are now expected to focus their attention on the results of the UP elections to be held next week. Any major setback for the Congress in UP could lead to a sell-off in stocks.
