Govt lifts ban on cotton exports
The government finally decided to lift the ban on cotton exports that was imposed last week, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said yesterday.

After analysing the resentment from all the sides, the Group of Ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, decided to roll back the ban.

The government on March 5, 2012 has imposed ban on cotton exports on the back of estimation of acute shortage in cotton production and this move by the government had attracted criticism from various states including Gujarat.

India is the second largest cotton exporter and Gujarat and Maharashtra are the biggest producers of cotton.
