IIP to improve in Feb, March : C Rangarajan
Terming the sharp growth in the January industrial output at 6.8 per cent as "encouraging", the chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC), C Rangarajan expects the numbers to improve in the month of February and March.

"It shows that perhaps industrial production is picking up and we may expect to see slightly improved behaviour in the month of February and March," said Rangarajan.

However, he expressed concerns over the sluggish performance of the capital goods sector.

"It is still negative and the intermediate goods sector is also showing a negative growth. The data for the last several months relating to the capital goods sector... have been violently fluctuating...One needs to take another look at what is contributing to this big drive in consumer non-durables," Rangarajan added.
