Markets end higher; metals pack lead
Markets ended the day higher today with metals and infrastructure companies seeing a smart rally in their stock prices. The BSE Sensex closed the day higher by 119 points at 17597 points, while the NSE Nifty closed the day higher by 40 points at 5358 points.

Among the shares that rallied today included Cairn and Jaiprakash Associates. Kingfisher Airlines spurted on reports that pilots had called off their proposed strike, which was scheduled for today, after 8 pm.

BHEL which reported its results today, saw marginals gains. The order book of the company was dismal, which disappointed the markets.

The rupee too gained ground today on renewed dollar inflows from foreign funds. Markets are now awaiting the Monetary Policy Review slated for April 17, 2012, which might decide the medium term movements of the markets.
