Ashok Leyland dips nearly 5% on fall in earnings number

Depressed by fall in fourth quarter earnings number ended March 2012, shares of country's second largest commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland Ltd plunged nearly 5 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange in the early trading.

Shares of the company started the day on weak note and witnessed a fall of as much 4.79 per cent to Rs 24.80 a piece on BSE.

There was also contraction in volume of trade with 3.24 lakhs shares changing hands till now compared to average of 13.27lakhs shares in daily trade on BSE.

In a similar fashion, shares of the company were trading at Rs 25.35, down 3.06 per cent on the National Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the broader benchmark Sensex was quoting at 16,240.35, up 24.51 points or 0.51 per cent at 9:38 hours.
