The BSE Sensex posted gains in today"s trade as the positive cues from global front led the domestic bpourses to close at higher note. The positive sentiments from yesterday"s statement of ECB President Mario Draghi strengthened the market. He signaled to take whatever needed steps to protect Euro from collapsing. Moreover, the earnings report on domestic front also supported the bourses to trade higher. Country"s largest private sector bank ICICI Bank Ltd today said that it reported a forecast beating growth of 24.58 per cent in its consolidated net profit for the first quarter ended June 2012 at Rs 2076.58 crore, driven by strong loan growth and fee income and on improving asset quality.

The BSE SENSEX closed at 16839.19 up by 199.37 points or by 1.2 % and then NSE Nifty was at 5099.85 up by 56.85 points or by 1.13 per cent. The BSE MIDCAP was at 5887.5 down by -53.44 points or by -0.9 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 6357.6 down by 62.47 points or by 0.97 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 16975.03 and intraday low of 16760.72 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 5149.95 and intraday low of 5077.5.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 399.30,+3.94%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 212.80,+3.88%), Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd. (Rs. 100.90,+3.22%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 584.25,+3.13%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 117.45,+3.12%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 1941.20,-3.77%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 208.25,-1.93%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2006.85,-1.58%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 326.95,-0.37%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1621.10,-0.10%), among others.
