Markets begin week on a steady note; Sensex trades flat
Markets began the week on a cautious note, ahead of key data points from Europe and the US. The BSE Sensex was trading higher by 24 points at 17,808 points at 9.20 am IST, while the S&P CNX Nifty was trading higher by 9 points.

Among the early gainers in trade were Bharti Airtel, Mahindra and Mahindra and Reliance Industries. Shares of Infosys Technologies, which shed more than 1% on Friday was trading unchanged at Rs 2441.

Shares of IFCI, which lost almost 13% in trade on Friday, lost another 4% today, following the government decision to exercis its option to convert Rs 923 crore worth of debentures into equity with immediate effect.

Among the shares that lost ground from the S&P CNX Nifty were Wipro, Tata Motors, Sterlite Industries and Sesa Goa, all of which were down marginally.

Meanwhile, all eyes would be on data and comments coming from key policy makers and politicians from Europe and the US.
