Markets end lower on expiry day
Markets ended the day lower on expiry day with the 30-share BSE Sensex lower by 52 points to 18,579 and the 50-share NSE Nifty lost 13 points at 5,649.

Shares of Vijay Mallya led Kingfisher Airlines soared over 7% on BSE ahead of lenders meeting due today to chalk out future action to recapitalise the airline.

 

Shares in Europe were trading in positive terrain. The UK's FTSE, the German DAX and the French CAC were all trading higher between 0.25% to 0.54%.

 

Credit Suisse has cut India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2013 to 6% from 6.5%, while also cutting its forecast for fiscal 2013-14 to 7.2% from 7.8%, a Reuters report had stated.

Among the shares that gained on NSE Tata Power was higher by 2.65%, L&T (2.09%), HCL Tech (1.96%), and Hindustan Unilever gained 1.72%.

Stocks that failed to lure investors in today's trade were SAIL, Sesagoa, Sterlite Industries and cairn India.
