Sensex, Nifty end higher; L&T up 2%
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services surged more than 2% after the company posted good quarter earnings.
The Larsen & Toubro shares gained 2.32% after the company posted net profit up 42.5% to Rs 1137 crore.
Bajaj Auto rose 0.54% to Rs 1,779 after reported net income higher than market expectations at Rs 740 crore. Shares touched an intra-day high of Rs 1801.
HDFC reported its Q2 net profit up 18% at Rs 1151cr. Shares of Bharti Airtel closed higher by 1.91% after the report that it is the world's 4th largest mobile operator.
Among sectoral indices, Consumer Goods, Health Care, Bankex and IT sectors were leading the rally
Sectors which lost grounds in today's trade were Consumer Durables (-0.69), FMCG(-0.61%) and Auto (-0.20).
Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading mixed with the German DAX lower by 0.02%, French CAC higher by 0.19% and the UK's FTSE up 0.12%.
Asian markets closed marginally higher with the Hang Sang up 0.68% and, Japanese Nikkei closed higher by 0.09% and the Shanghai ended higher by 0.21%.
