Mid-Market- Sensex trades higher as Oil & Gas stocks shine Analysis for May 27, 2013

The key domestic benchmarks were trading on a robust note as the Sensex rallied with oil and gas stocks grabbing the limelight as Reliance Industries Limited surged after the company said its partners BP and NIKO have struck a significant gas and condensate discovery in the KG D6 block. Asian stocks were trading mixed as China signaled that it may tolerate slower growth.

At 12:31PM, the BSE SENSEX was at 19,827.74, up by 123.41 points or by 0.63 per cent, and then NSE Nifty was at 6,027.3, up by 43.75 points or by 0.73 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 19,891.35 and intraday low of 19,678.31. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 6,034.45 and intraday low of 5,975.55.

Meanwhile, the BSE MIDCAP was at 6,426.74, up by 39.61 points or by 0.62 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 6,027.81, up by 35.35 points or by 0.59 per cent.

On the Sectoral front, Oil & Gas and Consumer Durables rose 1.46 per cent and 1.30 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong On BSE out of total shares traded 2207; shares advanced were 1127 while 937 shares declined and 143 were unchanged.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 816.10,+3.58%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1000.35,+3.17%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 308.55,+3.11%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 711.90,+1.47%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2094.00,+1.39%), among others.
