Mid-Market—Sensex off 20-k levels as FY"13 GDP disappoints Analysis for May 31, 2013

Indian markets extended the fall during mid-session with 30-share benchmark index Sensex paring the psychological 20,000 mark after GDP data showed Indian grew at 4.8 per cent in Q4 and at 5 per cent in FY"13—slowest in a decade. However, another data showing that FY"13 fiscal deficit came in at 4.9 per cent versus the budget estimate of 5.2 per cent provided some relief to the markets and arrested the fall. At 12:25PM BSE SENSEX was at 20008.83 down by 206.57 points or by 1.02 per cent while NSE Nifty was at 6050.75 down by 73.3 points or by 1.2 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 6450.94 down by 24.98 points or by 0.39 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 6013.96 down by 23.47 points or by 0.39 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd. (Rs. 93.20,+2.19%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2374.60,+1.39%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2123.45,+0.88%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 322.95,+0.73%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 1505.00,+0.43%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 344.00,-2.89%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 103.50,-2.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 982.10,-2.24%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 817.35,-2.22%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 708.05,-2.18%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2219, shares advanced were 819 while 1278 shares declined and 122 were unchanged.

In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 8776.04 down by -119.65 points or by -1.35%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 817.35,-2.22%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 329.35,-1.30%), Cairn India Ltd.
