Shares of telecom stocks, led by Reliance Communications, advanced over 2 per cent in otherwise subdued market on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced reduction in the national mobile phone roaming charges, but said there will be no free national roaming as of now.
The telecom regulator's decision against blanket waiver of roaming charges is good news for telecom companies which will come into effect from July.
Cheering the news, shares of Reliance Communications gained as much 2.29 per cent to trade at Rs 113.85 a piece on the BSE.
Among others, Idea Cellular was up nearly 2 per cent, while Bharti Airtel was up 1 per cent on BSE.
Meanwhile, the broader benchmark Sensex was quoting at 19,242.20, down 83.67 points or 0.43 per cent at 10:15 hours.
