Sensex plunges 100 points; IT & FMCG drags Analysis for Jul 25, 2013

Market continued to trade lower with the 30-sahre benchmark index, losing 100 points, on the back of selling pressure in Wipro and ITC. The investors remained cautious on account of futures and options expiry for July derivative contracts.

At 1:11PM BSE SENSEX, was at 19964.47 down, by 126.21 points or by 0.63 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 5950.45 down, by 40.05 points, or by 0.67 per cent.

Meanwhile, the European market saw weak opening led by fall in ATX, CAC 40, AEX General, Stockholm General among others.

Among the individual heavyweights, the laggards were Wipro, ITC, HUL, Tata Power, down between 3.03 per cent to 4.53 per cent among others. However, some buying interest was seen in Hero Moto Corp, Dr. Reddy, Tata Motors, ONGC among others.

The BSE MIDCAP, was at 5850.24 down, by 39.59 points or by 0.67 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5566.15 down by 35.72 points or by 0.64 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 20110.81 and an intraday low of 19910.08, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 5990.65 and an intraday low of 5946.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 1825.00,+3.83%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2374.00,+1.17%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 903.00,+1.06%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 300.15,+0.89%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 810.00,+0.89%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 374.15,-4.54%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 362.45,-3.60%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 685.15,-3.40%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 89.60,-3.03%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 159.20,-2.33%), among others.

On the sectoral front, FMCG and Consumer durables were the major losers and shed 2.45 per cent and 0.7 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2152 shares traded, 707 shares advanced, 1305 shares declined while 140 were unchanged.
