Mid-Market—Sensex remains lacklustre amid uncertainty over FOMC decision Analysis for Sep 18, 2013

Indian markets remained subdued with positive bias following mixed trade in other Asian markets amid uncertainty over the outcome of meeting of US Fed on Thursday. The 30-share benchmark index Sensex was trading up by around 50 points after a flat opening, with heavyweight stocks like RIL, ITC, HUL, ICICI Bank, SBI and L&T keeping up the momentum while HDFC Bank, HDFC and Infosys dragged. Among the sectoral indices, Realty, Consumer Durables, FMCG, Healthcare were gaining while Power, Auto and Bank stocks remained laggards.

At 12:49PM BSE SENSEX was at 19858.79 up by 54.76 points or by 0.28 per cent while NSE Nifty was at 5866.75 up by 16.55 points or by 0.28 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 5591.22 up by 15.23 points or by 0.27 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5485.32 up by 12.12 points or by 0.22 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 77.40,+2.38%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2351.00,+1.99%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1667.35,+1.98%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 639.50,+1.79%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 142.80,+1.71%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 783.45,-2.60%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 133.80,-2.01%), Sesa Goa Ltd. (Rs. 178.55,-1.11%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 836.70,-0.98%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2052.10,-0.86%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2201, shares advanced were 1069 while 993 shares declined and 139 were unchanged.
