Market remains stressed; Bankex, realty weigh Analysis for Sep 20, 2013

The 30-share benchmark index continued to move in the negative terrain recovering from their day's low after RBI governor Raghuram Rajan said that it will be wrong to say that RBI is prioritizing inflation over growth. Benchmark indices plunged after the central bank gave 25bps repo rate hike shocker to market. BSE Sensex plunged 596 points to 20051 while Nifty slumped 183points to 5933 after the announcement.

At 1:20PM, BSE SENSEX was at 20195.29, down by 451.35 points or by 2.19 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 5993.75, down by 121.8 points or by 1.99 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 20677.99 and intraday low of 20051.43 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 6130.95 and intraday low of 5932.85The BSE MIDCAP, was at 5645.26, down by 79.59 points or by 1.39 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5490.01, down by 51.24 points or by 0.92 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 567.00,+1.61%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 332.95,+1.25%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 475.80,+0.93%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2395.00,+0.81%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 980.75,-5.42%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 844.90,-4.87%), State Bank of India (Rs. 1727.45,-4.49%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 648.90,-4.15%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 1964.55,-3.68%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_HCS index was at 9343.81 up by 28.61 points or by 0.31%. Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 865.55,+1.88%), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 2383.75,+1.64%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 567.00,+1.61%), Cadila Healthcare Ltd. (Rs. 685.00,+1.17%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2395.00,+0.81%),.

In BSE, BSE Bankex index was at 12118.28 down by -579.55 points or by -4.56%. YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 356.70,-7.78%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 517.50,-7.08%), Union Bank of India (Rs. 129.85,-6.82%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 406.50,-6.40%), Bank of India (Rs. 180.00,-6.10%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2298 shares traded, 731 shares advanced, 1459 shares declined, while 108 remained unchanged.
