Sensex remains firm; realty, healthcare support Analysis for Oct 09, 2013

Bouncing back in the positive terrain, the 30-share benchmark index extended the gains during the noon trading session amid buying interest in index heavyweights including Sun Pharma, LNT, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Jindal Steel and BHEL among others.

At 1:15PM, BSE SENSEX was at 20119.97 up by 136.36 points or by 0.68 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 5962.7, up by 34.3 points or by 0.58 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 20127.09 and an intraday low of 19826.96, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 5967.4 and an intraday low of 5877.1.The BSE MIDCAP was at 5808.37, up by 40.32 points or by 0.7 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5649.58, up by 28.24 points or by 0.5 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 642.95,+4.83%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 848.25,+2.43%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 645.25,+1.93%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 859.40,+1.84%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 147.00,+1.59%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 184.00,-1.21%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 293.10,-1.16%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 852.95,-0.83%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 929.55,-0.82%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 479.00,-0.81%), among others.

In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1293.4 up by 31.86 points or by 2.53%. Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 42.70,+5.69%), Peninsula Land Ltd. (Rs. 30.25,+5.40%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 145.15,+4.46%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 140.55,+3.92%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 58.15,+3.19%),.

In BSE, BSETECk index was at 4600.05 down by 4.01 points or by 0.09%. MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 438.80,-1.36%), Financial Technologies (India) Ltd. (Rs. 167.70,-1.27%), Tata Communications Ltd. (Rs. 217.55,-1.16%), HT Media Ltd. (Rs. 86.55,-1.09%), Jagran Prakashan Ltd. (Rs. 79.15,-1.06%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total 2402 shares traded, 1225 shares advanced, 1018 shares declined while 159 remained unchanged.

On the global front, European markets remained marginally in the red as US government shutdown continues. CAC and DAX were trading down by 0.29 per cent and 0.15 per cent respectively followed by FTSE, trading in the negative terrain, down by 0.46 per cent.
