Mid-Market—Sensex remains lacklustre ahead of Infosys Q2 numbers Analysis for Oct 10, 2013

Indian markets continued the lacklustre trade during afternoon session with 30-share benchmark index Sensex hovering around the base line, weighed down by losses in heavyweight stocks such as HDFC Bank, RIL, ITC, and ICICI Bank. Analysts said that investors were waiting for Infosys" second quarter numbers which are set to be announced tomorrow. Among the sectoral indices, BSE Metal index was the biggest gainer with over 1 per cent gain while BSE Oil & Gas index was the biggest loser with nearly 1 per cent decline.

At 12:41PM BSE SENSEX was at 20227.69 down by 21.57 points or by 0.11 per cent while NSE Nifty was at 6007.65 up by 0.2 points.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 5861.11 up by 44.39 points or by 0.76 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5685.46 up by 33.75 points or by 0.6 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 309.45,+2.16%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 187.40,+1.68%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 252.80,+1.67%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 359.55,+1.55%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 862.65,+1.30%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 84.55,-1.51%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 330.25,-1.40%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 849.55,-1.33%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 641.00,-1.29%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 639.15,-0.85%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2284, shares advanced were 1217 while 913 shares declined and 154 were unchanged.

In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 8443.72 down by -59.01 points or by -0.69%. GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 330.25,-1.40%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 849.55,-1.33%), Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 322.00,-0.31%), Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 465.00,-0.09%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 191.15,-0.08%),.
