Sensex up 280 points; rate sensitive supports Analysis for Oct 29, 2013

The 30-share benchmark index continued to edge higher during the noon trading session on the back of RBI"s monetary policy announcement of a hike in repo rate by 25 bps which was on expected lines.

Among the individual heavyweights, almost all the stocks were trading in green. The major gainers on the bourses were Maruti, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, SSLT, Hindalco, HDFC and SBI among others trading up at 2.08 to 6.22 per cent.

At 1:18PM BSE SENSEX was at 20851.99 up by 281.71 points or by 1.37 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 6190.05 up by 88.95 points or by 1.46 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 20881.82 and an intraday low of 20493.66, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 6195.8 and an intraday low of 6079.2.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 5983.25, up by 63.18 points or by 1.07 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 5820.73, up by 23.45 points or by 0.4 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 1606.50,+6.18%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1062.50,+4.73%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 325.00,+4.03%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 202.30,+3.43%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 110.00,+2.80%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2054.80,-0.41%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 343.80,-0.26%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 136.25,-0.11%), among others.

In BSE, BSE_Bankex index was at 12719.68 up by 423.54 points or by 3.44%. YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 364.60,+4.97%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1062.50,+4.73%), Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 79.80,+4.52%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 430.30,+4.35%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1241.25,+4.28%),.

In BSE, BSETECk index was at 4749.14 down by 11.1 points or by 0.23%. HT Media Ltd. (Rs. 84.30,-1.98%), Vakrangee Softwares Ltd. (Rs. 67.75,-1.67%), Bharti Infratel Ltd. (Rs. 152.30,-1.20%), Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd. (Rs. 8.96,-0.78%), Den Networks Ltd. (Rs. 149.40,-0.47%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total 2347 shares traded, 1112 shares advanced, 1095 shares declined, while 140 remained unchanged.

On the global front, the European peers were trading mixed. DAX and CAC were trading in red and were down by 0.08 per cent and 0.48 per cent, whereas, FTSE was trading up by 0.07 per cent.
