After the steep hike of Rs 5 per kg in the gas prices last month, the government has cut CNG prices significantly by Rs 15/kg, or nearly 30 per cent, as per media report.

"The government has slashed CNG prices by Rs 15/kg, or nearly 30 per cent, with immediate effect," Oil Minister Veerappa Moily told media.

Adding to it, the minister also announced that the piped natural gas prices (PNG) would also be slashed by Rs 5 per cubic metres, or nearly 20 per cent.

The decision will provide partial relief for the aam aadmi, battering with double-digit inflation.

He further said that the exact rates of the gas would vary after taking into effect local taxes.

IGL and other city gas distribution firms will get cheaper domestic gas, Moily added.
