Sensex down 100 points amid selling pressure Analysis for Feb 05, 2014

Extending the losses, the 30-share benchmark index was down 100 points weighed down by FMCG and financials, auto and oil & gas stocks. The major laggards on the D-street included NTPC, ITC, BHEL, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries and Hindustan Lever among others. However, rupee was trading at 62.36/37 versus its close of 62.5250/5350, tracking weakness in the dollar versus majors and other Asian currencies. Moreover, investors will be eying the earnings data of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) today.

At 10:24AM BSE SENSEX was at 20117.69 down by 94.24 points or by 0.47 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 5965.55 down by 35.35 points or by 0.59 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 6293.14, up by 11.16 points or by 0.18 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 6279.72, up by 34 points or by 0.54 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 20254.82 and an intraday low of 20076.1, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 6012.85 and an intraday low of 5962.05.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 348.60,+1.59%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 862.80,+0.99%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 560.45,+0.82%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 592.00,+0.54%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2164.00,+0.41%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 127.60,-2.03%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 319.75,-1.62%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 161.20,-1.35%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 341.70,-1.21%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 812.30,-1.18%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_IT index was at 9202.56 up by 47.57 points or by 0.52%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1837.55,+3.85%), Hexaware Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 127.75,+1.75%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 384.90,+1.25%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 560.95,+0.91%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2167.60,+0.58%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 8274.82 down by -65.97 points or by -0.79%. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 236.05,-2.74%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 1661 shares traded, 935 shares advanced, 625 shares declined while 101 remained unchanged.
