Mid Market-Sensex in red, metals drag Analysis for Mar 11, 2014

Indian benchmark Indices are trading in the red amidst profit booking by investors and speculators. BSE metal Index was down by over 2.5 per cent. The rupee continued its winning streak and rose to a fresh seven-month high against the US dollar taking cues from firm Asian currencies and on persistent FII inflows.

At 12:11PM BSE SENSEX was at 21859 down by 75.83 points or by 0.35 per cent and NSE Nifty was at 6526.5 down by 10.75 points or by 0.16 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 6724.05 up by 1.31 points or by 0.02 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 6669.04 up by 5.94 points or by 0.09 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 81.75,+3.55%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1441.10,+1.00%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2712.00,+0.85%) and Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 560.85,+0.62%).

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 349.70,-3.99%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 117.50,-3.61%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 179.60,-2.58%) and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 989.05,-2.47%).

Sector Watch

In BSE, BSE Power index was at 1632.26 up by 9.55 points or by 0.59%. Major gainers were Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 81.85,+3.67%), Reliance Power Ltd. (Rs. 67.85,+2.26%) and CESC Ltd. (Rs. 488.00,+1.85%).

In BSE, BSE Metal index was at 8999.34 down by 252.41 points or by 2.73%. Major losers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 116.70,-4.27%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 349.20,-4.13%) and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 57.80,-3.26%).
