India eying $2.3 bn spice exports in FY 14: Reports

India is expecting a pickup in spice exports amid rising demand for spices and spices products in the international market, supporting the outlook for Asia's third biggest economy.

According to media reports, India is eying spice exports of USD 2.3 billion in the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2014.

In the April-December 2013 period, India's total spices and spices products exports rose by 41 per cent in rupee terms and 27 per cent in dollar and volume terms to Rs 9,433 crore, the Spices Board said, according to the PTI report.

The country exported 571,680 tonnes of spices and spices products in the April-December 2013 period.

In the April-December 2012 period, India exported 449,926 tonnes of spices and spices products valued at Rs 6,696 crore, the Spices Board added.

For the upcoming fiscal year beginning April 1, 2014, the Spices Board is also eying exports of spices and spices products at USD 2.3 billion.
