Govt appoints R. Gandhi as RBI Deputy Governor
The government of India on Thursday appointed R Gandhi as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), who will succeeds Anand Sinha who retired in January.

"R Gandhi has been appointed as RBI Deputy Governor for a period of three years from the afternoon of Thursday, April 03, 2014," according to the notification issued by the Government of India.

58-year old, Gandhi was executive director of the Reserve Bank before being elevated to the post of deputy governor. Gandhi will look the portfolios, such as department of banking operations and development, department of non-banking supervision, urban banks department, department of expenditure and budgetary control, department of information technology, legal department, premises department and risk monitoring department.

Born in 1956, Gandhi has a Master's degree in Economics from the Annamalai University, in Tamil Nadu, India. He also has post graduate level certificates in Management Information System from The American University, Washington DC, USA and in Capital Market from the City University of New York, New York, USA.
