Markets trade higher; metal stocks rally
The Sensex was up 88 points, while the Nifty rallied 23 points in trade. Among the gainers in trade from the metal pack were stocks like Sesa Sterlite, Hindalco and Tata Steel.
Shares in Wipro lost ground following the company's Q4 results which did not seem to impress the markets. The stock was down 4 per cent in trade.
Reliance Industries which reported results as per expectations was trading flat. Mid cap stocks saw some heavy buying interest with notable gainers being Biocon, Adani Enterprises and Voltas.
PSU banking stocks once again saw some buying interest with notable gainers being Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank and Bank of India.
Realty stocks were also among the gainers with HDIL, Oberoi and Sobha Developers trading higher.
Shares in Liberty Shoes jumped 14 per cent after its Q4 numbers impressed the markets. Shares in Shasun Pharma gained 20 per cent after the company said that its board will meet on April 23 to mull share allotment via preferential issue.
Alstom on the other hand was up after the company bagged a contract. Meanwhile, markets in Asia were mostly trading with gains. The Japanese Nikkei was up 0.52 per cent, while the Singapore's Strait Times and the Hong Kong's Hang Sang were also trading with gains.
