Sensex remains on strong footing, capital goods on buyer"s radar Analysis for Apr 23, 2014

Indian markets continued to trade with robust gains ahead of expiry supported by capital goods and banking shares, while decline in realty shares capped the gain.

At 1:17PM BSE SENSEX was at 22890.27 up by 131.9 points or by 0.58 per cent and NSE Nifty was at 6845.9 up by 30.55 points or by 0.45 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 7423.28 up by 37.11 points or by 0.5 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 7671.52 up by 42.42 points or by 0.56 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1375.70,+2.36%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 190.10,+1.85%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 630.00,+1.72%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1525.00,+1.66%) and GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 383.80,+1.37%).

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 123.30,-0.56%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2215.95,-0.20%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 428.25,-0.19%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2003.00,-0.12%) and Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 193.50,-0.10%).Sector WatchIn BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 12765.15 up by 191.85 points or by 1.53%. Major gainers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1375.70,+2.36%), Pipavav Defence & Offshore Engineering Company Ltd. (Rs. 47.85,+2.13%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 190.10,+1.85%), Welspun Corp Ltd. (Rs. 79.65,+1.53%) and SKF India Ltd. (Rs. 841.45,+1.15%).

In BSE, BSE_Bankex index was at 14991.05 up by 144.87 points or by 0.98%. Major gainers were Bank of India (Rs. 233.85,+3.13%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 799.45,+2.41%), Punjab National Bank (Rs. 806.00,+2.30%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 441.70,+1.70%) and Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1525.00,+1.66%).

In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1481.61 down by -0.6 points or by -0.04%. Major losers were Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 254.15,-6.27%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 155.40,-1.05%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 377.10,-0.96%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 222.95,-0.20%) and Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 16.82,-0.18%).
