Sensex down over 150 points; ONGC, RIL weigh Analysis for Jun 26, 2014

The market continued to dwindle in red due to heavy selling in oil & gas stocks, with the Sensex down over 150 points after the government defers its decision on gas price hike by three months till December 31, 2014. Further, the domestic sentiment was also dampened due to offloading of positions by participants ahead of expiry of June month F&O later today.

At 1:15PM BSE SENSEX was at 25158.16, down by 155.58 points or by 0.61 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 7525.2, down by 44.05 points or by 0.58 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9200.18 down by 8.48 points or by 0.09 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10007.82, down by 4.97 points or by 0.05 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 25309.33 and an intraday low of 25129.06, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 7570.2 and an intraday low of 7514.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1673.65,+1.41%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2513.75,+1.39%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 253.30,+1.36%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 533.50,+0.97%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1178.45,+0.69%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 414.65,-5.08%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1018.00,-3.12%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 153.60,-2.04%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 979.70,-1.54%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 460.60,-1.45%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 15938.33 up by 166.23 points or by 1.05%. Pipavav Defence & Offshore Engineering Company Ltd. (Rs. 66.10,+3.12%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1673.65,+1.41%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 253.30,+1.36%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 2134.00,+1.31%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 897.50,+1.16%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 11049.9 down by -375.79 points or by -3.29%. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 414.65,-5.08%), Oil India Ltd. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3009, 1441 shares advanced, 1462 shares declined while 106 remained unchanged.
