Sensex, Nifty end higher; Reliance gains on good Q1 numbers
The Sensex ended the day higher by 73 points, while the Nifty gained 20 points in trade. Leading the set of gainers on the Nifty apart from Reliance Industries was ITC, HDFC and Coal India. HDFC Bank which reported numbers that were slightly below expectations ended the day flat in trade.
Software stocks had a mixed session in trade with Infosys and Wipro declining, while TCS gained ground in trade. Auto stocks also had a good session in trade with Maruti gaining almost one per cent. Shares in MCX rallied 8 per cent after reports that Kotak Mahindra Bank will buy a 15 per cent stake in MCX.
Ultratech Cement saw its share price drop after the company reported numbers that were below street expectations.
Select mid cap stocks saw some buying interest with Godrej Industries, Karnataka Bank and India Cements being among the winners. However, Ashok Leyland ended the day lower in trade.
Ramco Systems gained ground after reports that the board will mull fund raising via issue of securities on July 27.
Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading lower, while most of Asia ended the day mixed in trade.
