Sensex up 140 points; RIL surges over 2% Analysis for Jul 21, 2014

Markets continued to trade in the positive terrain in the noon trading session with the Sensex up 138 points supported by gains in index heavyweights including Reliance Industries, HDFC, Maruti, HDFC Bank and Hindustan Unilever among others. Shares of Reliance Industries jumped over 2 per cent after company posted better-than-expected earnings for the first quarter. Adding to the momentum on D-Street, progress of monsoon and firm cues from the other Asian peers further bolstered the investors.

At 1:18PM BSE SENSEX was at 25779.79, up by 138.23 points or by 0.54 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 7697.05, up by 33.15 points or by 0.43 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9345.24, up by 92.44 points or by 1 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10315.02 up by 134.18 points or by 1.32 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 25861.15 and an intraday low of 25715.78, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 7722.1 and an intraday low of 7681.35.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1005.45,+2.94%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1008.00,+2.75%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 2564.30,+1.60%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 348.75,+1.34%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1194.70,+1.24%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 180.30,-2.30%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3212.00,-1.27%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 104.50,-1.18%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 440.40,-1.10%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 471.35,-0.81%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE Oil&Gas index was at 10887.84 up by 117.38 points or by 1.09%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1005.45,+2.94%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 334.80,+1.18%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Metal index was at 13232.27 down by -33.68 points or by -0.25%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 180.30,-2.30%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 296.20,-0.74%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1207.75,-0.67%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 164.75,-0.33%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 296.60,-0.13%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total 2959 shares traded, 1782 shares advanced, 1067 shares declined while 110 remained unchanged.
