Sensex, Nifty end lower; DLF cracks 8% on HC verdict

For a change it was red across the markets on Thursday with the benchmark indices ending the day lower on profit booking.

The Sensex ended the day lower by 54 points, while the Nifty fell 18 points in trade. Leading the set of losers from trade was DLF which fell a huge 8 per cent after the High Court set aside allotment of 350 acres land in Gurgaon.

Metal stocks were also weak in trade with the likes of Hindalco and Jindal Steel shedding almost 4 per cent in trade. Other prominent Nifty losers in trade were Bhel and NMDC.

Bhushan Steel which has been hitting the lower end of the circuit filter rose 5 per cent was locked at the upper end of the circuit filter. Stocks that rose from the Nifty were Bajaj Auto, Hero Motor Corp and HDFC.

PSU banking stocks once again came in for some severe selling pressure with stocks like IDBI Bank and Bank of India among the losers.

Mid cap stocks ended the day flay in trade, though stocks like Tata Global, CESC and India Cements staged a smart recovery.

Realty stocks saw some deep cuts in trade with DB Realty, Oberoi and Unitech among the losers. Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading with modest losses, while most of Asia ended the day with gains.
