Sensex, Nifty end lower; HDFC, Coal India fall
State Bank of India, Larsen and Toubro and ONGC were among the few Nifty gainers in trade. Shares in Bhushan Steel were locked at the upper end of the circuit filter for the third straight day. DLF which had fallen on Thursday following the High Court verdict on land in Gurgaon recovered lost ground and ended the day higher.
The Bank Nifty ended the day with losses led by private sector banking stocks like ICICI Bank and HDFC. Asian Paints and Bajaj Auto continued to see buying interest in trade.
United Breweries ended the day higher on reports that the company acquired brewery assets of Pacific Spirits for Rs 105 crore.
Select mid cap stocks saw huge selling pressure. IFCI was down 4 per cent, while other stocks from the space that lost ground were Jubilant Foods and Reliance Communications.
L&T had a good day in trade after the company won a Rs 5,100 crore super- critical power plant order, to set up 1320 MW thermal power project in MP.
Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading marginally higher with the German DAX and the French CAC higher in trade.
