Mid-Session: Sensex down nearly 100 points; Tata Motors dips 1% Analysis for Sep 16, 2014

The markets continue to trade in the negative territory during the afternoon session, led by losses in Oil & Gas index followed by Auto and Metal indices. Among the individual stocks Oil And Natural Gas Corporation, Axis Bank, Coal India, NTPC, Sesa Sterlite was among the notable losers. Index heavyweight Tata Motors has dipped 1% after global wholesales in August 2014, declining of 10 per cent from the corresponding month last year. Meanwhile, the investors turned cautious ahead of the start of the two-day US Federal Reserve policy meeting starting today.

At 12:35 the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 26732.6 down by -83.96 points or by -0.31 % and then NSE Nifty was at 8019.45 down by -22.55 points or by -0.28 %.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9980.16 down by -20.7 points or by -0.21 %, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11250.33 up by 4.81 points or by 0.04 %.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2944, shares advanced were 1444 while 1397 shares declined and 103 were unchanged.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 410.75,-2.50%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 403.65,-1.98%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 345.95,-1.72%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 134.50,-1.18%), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 283.00,-1.10%), among others.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3029.15,+1.76%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 804.00,+1.07%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 3678.00,+0.96%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 414.60,+0.77%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 571.70,+0.69%), among others.

In BSE, BSE Realty index was at 1780.68 up by 19.81 points or by 1.13%. Unitech Ltd. (Rs. 24.95,+3.10%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 243.80,+2.37%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 176.55,+1.70%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 57.80,+1.58%), Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. (Rs. 545.05,+1.34%),.
