Markets extend losses; Hindalco, Axis Bank weigh Analysis for Sep 25, 2014

The markets extended losses during noon session of trade as investors and traders to roll over their positions ahead of the futures and options (F&O) September expiry today. The 30-share benchmark index was trading down by 162 points amid selling pressure in Hindalco, Axis Bank, BHEL, Tata Steel, ONGC and ICICI Bank among others. Further the power and oil sector, and public sector bank' stocks lost sheen amid the coal block verdict and government delaying on gas pricing.

At 1:11PM BSE SENSEX was at 26581.95, down by 162.74 points or by 0.61 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 7956.2, down by 46.2 points or by 0.58 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 9423.42, down by 157.41 points or by 1.64 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10528.97, down by 262.47 points or by 2.43 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 26814.2 and an intraday low of 26553.37, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8019.3 and an intraday low of 7947.9.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 614.50,+2.36%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2700.25,+2.15%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 412.30,+2.09%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3297.95,+2.02%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 450.60,+1.73%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 145.30,-7.04%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 381.70,-3.79%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 204.00,-3.77%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 455.85,-3.69%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1469.75,-3.09%), among others.

Among the sectors, In BSE, BSETECk index was at 5871.64 up by 57.94 points or by 1%. Bharti Infratel Ltd. (Rs. 299.45,+4.92%), Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 331.00,+2.86%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2700.25,+2.15%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 412.30,+2.09%), Just Dial Ltd. (Rs. 1645.05,+1.70%),.

On the flip side, In BSE, BSE Power index was at 1988.35 down by -44.78 points or by -2.2%. Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd. (Rs. 12.25,-10.26%), Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 44.05,-5.67%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 136.00,-4.23%), Reliance Power Ltd. (Rs. 72.90,-3.95%), CESC Ltd. (Rs. 744.60,-3.85%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2901 shares traded, 710 shares advanced, 2106 shares declined while 85 remained unchanged.
