NPPA powers not withdrawn, says Govt

The government of India on Wednesday announced that it has not withdrawn the power of NPPA to fix prices of non-scheduled drugs.

"The Government has neither withdrawn the powers delegated to NPPA nor NPPA has been directed to withdraw the orders," said the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in a statement.

The Ministry has issued this statement after certain section of media reported that the government has withdrawn the power of NPPA to fix drug prices and also it has directed NPPA to withdraw the notifications dated 10.07.2014 fixing prices of 108 non-scheduled drugs.

The Ministry further said that the internal guidelines issued by NPPA on 29.05.214 on fixation of prices of scheduled and non-scheduled formulations under para 19 of DPCO, 2013, have been challenged in Bombay and Delhi High Court.
