Sensex Ends With Gains After Hitting a New Lifetime High of 28,000 points
Benchmark indices rose for yet another session on sustained buying by FIIs with the Sensex hitting the 28,000 points in intra day trading.
Other stocks that gained ground were State Bank of India, Infosys and TCS. Shares in Vindhya Telelinks surged a huge 16 per cent in trade, while Gujarat Pipavav Port gained after the company reported a good set of quarterly numbers.
Metal stocks were the clear laggards in trade with Hindalco, Jindal Steel, Sesa Sterlite and NMDC dropping sharply in trade.
Mid cap stocks saw some selling pressure in trade with Divis Labs, Jain Irrigation, Mcleod and Tata Global Beverages among the losers.
Oil and gas stocks which have rallied in the last few trading sessions also saw some profit booking. Banking stocks ended the day higher led by gains in ICICI Bank, Indusind Bank and Yes Bank.
Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading higher led y gains in the German DAX and the UK's FTSE.
