Markets End Marginally Higher; PSU Banks Surge

Markets ended the day marginally higher led by stocks from the private and PSU banking space.The Sensex closed the day higher by 36 points, while the Nifty closed the day higher by 18 points.

Leading the set of gainers from the non index stocks were shares from the PSU banking space. Allahabad Bank rallied 5 per cent, while IDBI Bank and Andhra Bank saw rallies of four per cent each.

Shares of ITC and Bhel were the biggest losers from the non index space. Other noted losers were Bharti Airtel and Coal India.

Shares in Mahindra and Mahindra, Bank of Baroda and Larsen were among the top gainers from the Nifty space.

Mid cap stocks also saw some traction with CESC rallying and Jain Irrigation gaining a huge 7 per cent in trade.

Meanwhile, markets in Europe were trading higher led by gains in the German DAX and French CAC.
