Post Session- Sensex, Nifty end lower in choppy trade Analysis for Dec 03, 2014

Continuing its losing streak for the third straight session, the key benchmark index BSE Sensex ended flat to lower in choppy trade on Wednesday, on bouts of selling in IT, tech, healthcare and FMCG sectors. The Indian bourses opened higher today, paring its overnight losses after RBI refrained from rate cut in its bi-monthly policy review on Tuesday, amid gains in realty, auto, capital goods, banking, consumer durables and oil and gas stocks. On the global front, Asian markets ended on mix note, with Japan"s Nikkei rose for a fourth straight session on Wednesday as yen weakened against US dollar. The other Asian peers, Hong Kong and China stocks ended lower, paring gains in late trade due to signs that the market is overheated.

The BSE SENSEX closed flat at 28442.71 down by 1.3 points or by 0 per cent, and then NSE Nifty ended at 537.65 up by 12.95 points or by 0.15 per cent.

In the listless trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28504.65 and intraday low of 28370.73, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8546.95 and intraday low of 8508.35.

Outperforming the benchmark indices, the BSE MIDCAP closed at 10499.86 up by 143.75 points or by 1.39 per cent, and the BSE SMLCAP settled at 11435.88 up by 184.67 points or by 1.64 per cent.

On the Sectoral front, rate sensitive auto and realty stocks emerged as top gainers, rising as much as 1.34 per cent and 1.32 per cent, respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3283, shares advanced were 2008 while 1140 shares declined and 135 were unchanged..

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 371.90,+2.98%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 278.30,+2.50%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 142.75,+1.67%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1285.45,+1.57%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 817.30,+1.55%), among others.

On the flip side, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3505.70,-2.43%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1104.20,-1.83%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 377.70,-1.72%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 168.85,-1.49%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 932.45,-1.09%), were among notable losers on BSE.
