Sensex, Nifty End Higher; Reliance, ICICI Bank lead
The Sensex and the Nifty ended the day higher for a second straight day led by gains in heavyweights Infosys and ICICI Bank.
The Sensex ended the day higher by 245 points, while the Nifty gained 65 points in trade. Leading the set of gainers from the Nifty were stocks like Reliance Industries and Coal India. DLF on the other hand lost ground along with stocks like ITC.
Shares in JSW Energy surged past the Rs 100 mark in trade on strong buying support. Shares in MonteCarlo Fashions which got listed today ended the day lower.
PSU banking stocks saw a weakish sentiment prevailing with stocks like Canara Bank and Bank of India seeing some selling pressure.
Mid cap stocks also saw some smart gains with Just Dial, Sail and Reliance Capital being among the top gainers. However, Havells came under some selling pressure.
Meanwhile, markets across Asia ended the day sharply higher, while most of Europe was trading with gains. Among the gainers from Europe were the German Dax, French CAC and the UK's FTSE.
